Somatic Coaching for Nervous System Regulation and Self-Trust
The linden pathway
Historically, the linden tree has been associated with protection, healing, and the heart, symbolising a place of refuge, restoration, and gentle strength across many European traditions. Like the linden, this pathway offers a grounded, compassionate space to reconnect with your body, cultivate nervous system regulation, and develop a deeper sense of safety and self-trust.
This pathway offers gentle, body-aware online coaching for adults who want to feel more present, regulated and connected to themselves in daily life.
Somatic coaching helps you notice how stress, pressure, emotion, boundaries and old survival patterns show up in the body, and supports you in building practical tools for nervous system regulation, self-trust, embodied choice and sustainable change.

You Do Not Have to Think your Way Through Everything
Many people arrive at counselling after years of understanding themselves intellectually. They know their patterns. They can explain their childhood, their coping strategies, their attachment style, their burnout, their perfectionism, their people-pleasing...
And still, in the moment, the body may do something else. It freezes. It tightens. It collapses. It overfunctions. It says yes when you meant no. It shuts down when you need to speak. Somatic coaching offers a way to work with those moments gently, through the body as well as the mind.
If you feel stuck, numb or on autopilot while still functioning, you may also want to explore Functional Freeze.
What is Somatic Coaching?
Somatic coaching is a body-aware approach to personal growth, emotional regulation and behavioural change. Rather than focusing only on thoughts, goals or mindset, it also pays attention to physical sensations, nervous system patterns, breath, tension, posture, movement, impulses and the body’s signals.
The word “somatic” refers to the body. In practice, somatic coaching helps you notice how your body responds to stress, pressure, relationships, boundaries, decisions and change. Somatic counselling helps you learn how you can build more capacity, choice and steadiness over time in day-to-day life.

What Can Somatic Coaching Support?
Nervous system regulation
Building resources for moments of stress, shutdown, anxiety, urgency, numbness or overwhelm.
Functional freeze & feeling stuck
Support for people who are still functioning outwardly, but feel internally frozen, flat, foggy, or disconnected.
Burnout & chronic overextension
Noticing the body’s signals before collapse, and rebuilding a more sustainable relationship with energy, rest, and responsibility.
Boundaries & self-trust
Practising how it feels to notice a yes, a no, a maybe, a limit, a preference or a need before overriding it.
Emotional regulation
Learning to stay with emotion in manageable ways, without becoming flooded, disappearing, pleasing or shutting down.
Somatic Coaching and Therapy: What is the Difference?
Somatic coaching and counselling can both be reflective, body-aware and supportive. The difference is usually in the focus, depth and scope of the work.
Somatic coaching is often more present-focused and practice-led. It may support nervous system education, emotional regulation, boundaries, embodiment, self-trust, values, decision-making and everyday behaviour change.
Counselling may be more appropriate when you need mental health support, trauma processing, treatment for PTSD symptoms, complex trauma work, severe anxiety or depression, eating disorder support, self-harm support, or a space to work deeply with past experiences.

What Happens in a Somatic Counselling Session?
Somatic counselling sessions are collaborative and paced around your capacity. We may begin by exploring what is happening in your life now, what pattern you are trying to understand, and how that pattern shows up in your body, emotions, choices and relationships.
Sessions may include conversation, body awareness, grounding, nervous system education, reflection, gentle practices, noticing sensations, exploring boundaries, working with small choices, and developing tools you can return to between sessions.
Somatic Coaching Sessions May Include…
Exploring what feels stuck, pressured or difficult
Noticing body signals, sensations or impulses
Learning nervous system regulation practices
Building resources for stress, shutdown or overwhelm
Practising boundaries in small, manageable ways
Exploring yes/no/maybe signals in the body
Supporting decision-making through embodied awareness
Working with functional freeze, overfunctioning or collapse
Creating gentle practices for daily life
Reflecting on what changes when the body feels safer
An Alternative to Productivity-Led Coaching
Somatic counselling at The Walled Garden is not about becoming more efficient at overriding yourself. It is not about turning your nervous system into another performance project.
This work is slower, kinder and more honest than that. It is for people who are tired of pushing through, performing okay, explaining themselves perfectly, and treating their bodies as inconvenient obstacles to success.
Together, we can explore what your body has been trying to communicate, where your system has learned to protect you, and what it might mean to build a life with more room for choice, capacity, rest, boundaries and self-trust.
